First days of the year in Parikkala
On the 2nd of January I was very tired after the New Year’s trip – so only year-tick I got was a Jackdaw. But on the 3rd day I went to Siikalahti on my lunch-hour and managed to see Willow, Long-tailed, Crested and Coal Tits, Magpies, Bullfinches, Yellowhammers, a Treecreeper and a Jay.
On the 4th day my only year-tick was a House Sparrow, but on the 5th day we went to see Siberian Jays once again. Finally we were there on a good weather so we managed to get some good pictures! On the way back we visited Siikalahti where we saw 2 White-backed Woodpeckers and again a flock of Long-tailed Tits.
On the 6th of January I did my winter-bird count again. I was skiing 18.5 kilometres around Siikalahti and saw 11 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, a Blackbird, 9 Willow Tits, a Coal Tit, 33 Blue Tits, 105 Great Tits, 4 Jays, 22 Magpies, 49 Jackdaws, 12 Hooded Crows, 6 Ravens, 6 House Sparrows, 16 Tree Sparrows, a Chaffinch, 69 Greenfinches, a Gold Finch, a Siskin, 121 Redpolls, 3 Common Crossbills, a Pine Grosbeak, 8 Bullfinches and 20 Yellowhammers.
On the 7th day my only better bird was a flying Waxwing in Siikalahti.
